HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY

Crank it up! These “jams” are hot

Hillsborough County will play host to seven jamborees this spring season and while all of them carry importance in some form or fashion, three sites jump off the page when we start to look at the match-ups involved.

The first jamboree that catches are attention is being hosted by Strawberry Crest. This one will see Armwood take on Tampa Bay Tech in one half of play, with the Chargers facing off against their east county neighbors from Plant City in the second 24 minutes of play. The Hawks and Titans playing would be a primetime pairing all by itself with a game that has the Class 6A runners-up and the  7A Regional Finalists from last season, but when you add Plant City and ‘Crest with the amount of talent on those rosters, this one becomes almost impossible not to give it your undivided attention.

The second jamboree is hosted by Gaither and made it for the most obvious of reasons; including some that do not include football. What’s normally a “quad of extreme discontent” without even trying could be a quad of sheer chaos when some of Alonso’s former players take the field for their arch-rival Sickles. Both Gaither and Steinbrenner have defenses with prospects all over the place, especially at the linebacker position. Does not matter what sport it is, these four schools do NOT like each other; just so happens they get to settle it with a some legally-violent contact on the 21st.

The third and final “jam” we think will provide the best action takes place at Bloomingdale. This one pairs neighborhood rivals against one another as well when Durant faces Newsome and then the Bulls taking on Brandon. Both Durant and Bloomingdale are now a part of  7A-9 that creates quite the gauntlet when you add Tampa Bay Tech, East Bay, Lennard, Plant City and a much-improved Strawberry Crest squad. Brandon and Bloomingdale played a 22-16 thriller last season during week two, and the always emotional game between Durant and Newsome ended in a 33-31 victory for the Wolves.
