Redemption came for the Gaither Cowboys in the 2013 BHSN 9 Route 7-on-7 Championship. One year after falling to East Lake in the title game, this time they were able to hold off the Lakewood Spartans for a 33-27 victory.
It was an explosive first half, with the teams combining for 42 points and finishing the first 20 minutes tied at 21. Late in the second half, Lakewood drove inside the Gaither 10-yard line. Senior QB Joc Ellison (27-39, 296 yards, 4 TD) lofted a pass to Andrew Davis in the corner of the end zone, but Davis was ruled out-of-bounds by inches, and Gaither was able to kill the final minute of the clock. – SEE FULL BHSN ARTCLE HERE

Joc Ellison, Lakewood ATH took over the quarterback duties midway through the tournament. Showed an element of his game that he only pulls out in extreme situations. Well, not only did he win games, but looked good doing so. In the championship game, Ellison was 27/39 for 296 yards passing.
Alex McGough led the charge for the champion Cowboys. Throwing for 262 yards and 5 touchdowns. Winning MVP honors and looking very good while doing so. Battling back and forth with Joc Ellison, McGough engineer crucial scoring drives to dig past the Spartans.
Tyrae Boykins, Lakewood WR was huge all day. He combined with 6-3 Andrew Davis (8 receptions, 73 yards, TD) gave Gaither all they could handle. Both sure handed and dependable. Malik Huff – 7 receptions for 131 yards and 2 touchdowns. Darquez Watson played a big role totaled 9 receptions for 81 yards.
