Clearwater defeats CCC

Tornadoes came back in the second half to defeat the Marauders 28-23 in spring game. CCC led 17-14 at the half but only managed two field goals the rest of the way as Clearwater’s defense bent but didn’t break and offensivelly scored on two long runs.

Clearwater’s rising junior running back Adarius Lemons rushed for 200 yards on 17 carries including three touchdowns from 6, 54, 65 yards. Rising senior quarterback Garrison Bryant went 9-for-13 passing for 73 yards including a 26-yard touchdown pass to rising senior wide receiver Zach Lehman to grab an early 7-0 lead. Rising junior running back Tupac Blanch chipped in 40 yards on seven rushes and had key runs in a late second quarter drive as his team tied the score at 14.

Defensively, the Tornadoes stopped two Marauder drives on downs in their territory and limited 3 others to short field goals after reaching the red zone. Rising senior defensive end Jarreyon Johnson had a sack, a forced fumble turnover, a tackle-for-loss, and a pass defense. Additionally, rising senior linebacker Cameron Ellis had two tackle-for-losses and rising junior defensive end Rickey Williams had one sack.

CCC’s rising junior RB/DB Ra’shaad Stewart rushed for 108 yards on 11 carries and returned an interception 48 yards to set up the Marauders’ second score to go up 14-7. Rising junior quarterback Jakob Park went 10-for-18 for 124 yards and hit rising junior RB Jervon Newton for a 16-yard TD pass.  Jervon also rushed for 81 yards on 13 carries including a 40-yard touchdown to tie the score 7-7.  Kicker Tyler McDonald hit on all three of his field attempts from 20, 22, and 28 yards.

Marauders’ rising junior Jerquan Newton had a sack, a fumble recovery, and 2 tackle-for-losses. Rising senior linebacker Max Kligman had 1.5 sacks and 2 TFL’s, his shared sack was with rising senior Adam Samee.

It was announced after the game that Clearwater interim head coach Don Mesick would be hired full time.
