Clearing the path is Flath: Lakeland OT, Jake Flath

Lakeland’s Jake Flath has shown he is ready to carry on the family tradition of playing in the trenches. His dad John, played along the defensive line at Florida State in the late-80’s/early 90’s and is now coaching the big boys up front on the OL at Southeastern University in Lakeland after coaching the Dreadnaughts at the same position for years.

Jake stands at 6-foot-5-inches, 245-pounds and plays at the tackle position for the ‘Naughts and shows he’s learned a few things about the position with technique and instinct. He can pass or run block displaying his functional and reactive athleticism along with feet that never stop moving once he hits the target and starts pushing defenders like a sled downfield finishing to the whistle. Specifically within pass-protection, Flath steps and sets his anchor quickly and punches with force. In the ground game, he explodes out of his stance and finishes downfield into the second level extremely well.

Perhaps Flath’s biggest asset beyond all of the obvious ones mentioned is that he’s Lakeland’s long-snapper; a position that can sometimes be one of the most important on the field aside from the center or the quarterback. Oh, and in case you were wondering whether or not he needs to answer any questions about his performance in the classroom, Flath’s G.P.A. currently sits a 4.2-core along with a 29 ACT and a 1680 SAT.

Flath has gained interest from Davidson, Wofford, Charleston Southern, Western Kentucky, Appalachian State, Bucknell and Southern Illinois among others. He has offers from Eastern Kentucky, Florida A&M, Florida Tech and Idaho.
