CHAMINADE-MADONNA WITH THE LAST SECOND FG FOR THE 3A TITLE

ORLANDO – The Chaminade-Madonna Lions are State Champions following their 31-28 defeat of Oxbridge Academy from West Palm Beach in the Class 3A State Championship game at Camping World Stadium. Their winning score came courtesy of Daniel Longman’s field goal from point-blank range with :04 left on the clock, capping off an 11-play, 69-yard drive that consumed over three minutes.

Chaminade’s “Mr. Do-It-All” running back Shaun Shivers, an Auburn commit, battled through a knee injury during the course of the game, but finished with astounding 30 carries totaling 216 yards and two touchdowns. Shivers got the scoring started with just under ten minutes left in the first quarter. The Lions took a 21-14 lead into the half, and found themselves tied at 28 following 14-unanswered points from Oxbridge with just over three minutes left in the game.

Oxbridge QB Gio Richardson showed quite a bit of moxie, ending up with 339 total yards and four touchdowns on the day. Richardson currently holds offers from Middle Tennessee and Florida Atlantic. Chaminade’s defensive front seven was also credited with 5 sacks causing havoc for Oxbridge. SEE SOME GREAT PICTURES HERE

    • Oxbridge QB Gio Richardson’s best passing performance prior to the state championship game today was against Florida State University High passing for 193 yards, 10 of 10 and 3 passing TD. He didn’t win in the completion percentage today versus Chaminade, but threw for 286 yards and 3 TDs.
    • 24/14 – Oxbridge gained 24 first downs and held Chaminade to 14.
    • Oxbridge average 5 yards per offensive play. Chaminade-Madonna averaged 9.2 yards per offensive play
    • Both teams were allowing less than 5 points a game to opponents during the playoffs. Chaminade had only allowed 3 total points in the last three games with two shutouts. Both teams allowed four touchdowns today.
