Bryant will change the winds at Clearwater

Garrison Bryant, 2014 Ignite QB MVP

In January, over 30 quarterbacks took the field to compete at the annual Ignite Elite Showcase. The field was stacked, headlined by some of the best passers in the area and across the state. At the end of the competition, Garrison Bryant took home QB MVP. “Who” you may ask. His name is Garrison Bryant and he is a sophomore at Clearwater High School.

It’s tough to attract attention when the team you play for has won just 5 games in the last 3 years and went winless in 2013 as Clearwater did. Reporters and college coaches don’t go banging down those doors often. However, as Tornado first year head coach, Donnie Abraham continues to improve his coaching staff, change the culture at his school and get his talent on his field and not flee to other schools, the winds at Clearwater High will change and the starting point will be with their youthful QB.

Bryant has a very high ceiling. Young, strong arm and throws the ball with plenty of velocity. His footwork is improving, which will increase his accuracy rate. As you will see in the film below, he is not extremely consistent with his technique, but that is nothing but coaching and development. He is a pocket QB with enough mobility to escape trouble. What is really impressive about Bryant, he rarely leaves the pocket to run. He voids the pocket to create space and make a pass, always keeping his eyes up field.

The building blocks are going up at Clearwater. One by one, the Tornado are improving from their disappointing 2013 season and gluing together their plans for 2014. If Clearwater wants different on field results in 2014, it will start with the play of their quarterback, Garrison Bryant.
