BRANDON EAGLES

COACH: Dean Eychner

2011 RECORD:
District Runner Up
District Record 4-1
Overall Record 5-6

DISTRICT 7A-8: Durant, East Bay, Newsome, Plant City, Riverview

OBSERVATIONS
The “Dean Eychner” era has started at Brandon High. Not many surprises at practice which was structured, well organized, timely and instructional. At yesterday’s practice we counted 10 coaches not including trainers or auxiliary staff. The offense will be different as legendary Jim Wilt constructs his machine. The defense will be versatile as Eychner brings his success from Hillsborough. The Eagles do not have a team full of talent, but how many teams on the East Side do? Brandon will be sound on both sides of the ball as plenty of coaching and attention to detail was evident at practice.

OUTLOOK
Plant City, Durant, Newsome, East Bay and Riverview are the must win games for Brandon. As it stands, Durant and Newsome will be the favorites in the district with Plant City and East Bay wanting to make a mess of things. Eagle Nation will need not to expect their team to set the county on fire this year, yet expect the bricks to keep coming as the foundation is laid for success.

PROSPECTS (hilites linked)
Isaiah Harris, 2013 LB 6-1/225 – Harris will enter his senior year with a position change. Last season, Harris was a standout defensive end that caused havoc in the offensive backfield. This season, he will transition to line backer. A move that hopefully will set him up for success and a future playing college football. Though he was a really good DE in 2011, 6-1 is undersized for the position, yet perfect for a line backer. Harris has great speed and is physical. LB should be a perfect fit!

Darren Lester, 2014 OT 6-4/270 – Lester has BCS size and potential. The big man is a sight to see and has lots of room to improve. Lester does a great job at engaging defenders and locking on. But, he needs to play with a lower pad level and continue to get better at his technique. Don’t be alarmed, he is just a rising junior and will be a monster when all said and done.

Cyrus Dooley, 2013 FB 5-11/240 – The “D Train” was limited at practice. Rehabbing an injury kept Dooley out of full contact drills. This kid is a sight to see and gives off the “I don’t take no stuff” attitude. If their was a dictionary picture of a bully, it would probably be Dooley with a smirk. How else would you want your 240lbs fullback to be? In addition to him being a beast, he can run. He will run past defenders, around defenders or over defenders depending on the situations.
