MANATEE COUNTY

Braden River folds Palmetto

Bradenton, FL – The scoring starting fast for Braden River and didn’t ease up until the second half. Our Game of the Week looked to be a good one on paper. Palmetto entered the game with a 6-1 record. Only blemish to their record came at the hands of Manatee. Braden River entered the contest undefeated and exited the very same way.

Braden River scored first on a Ramon Thomas short TD run with 8:29 remaining in the first quarter. Braden River led 7-0 after the extra point. After forcing a turnover on downs, Braden River struck again when Jaylin Austin rushed for a 9 yard TD. The Pirates took a 14-0 lead into the second period.

The Braden River defense did their part the entire game forcing Palmetto QB Jack Allison from the pocket several times and shutting down the Palmetto running game. After both teams traded possessions Braden River QB Jacob Huesman threw a 40 yard TD pass to Jaylin Austin for his second TD of the night. Two minutes later, Huesman would toss his second TD pass of the night on a quick pass to Juwaan Jenkins and he scampered 52 yards for Braden Rivers 4th TD of the half. Braden River took a 28-0 lead into half time.

Palmetto had no answers for the Pirates offense. The receivers were consistently getting behind the secondary and when the defensive backs loosened up, the Heusmen would throw the ball in front of them on short routes. Braden River took what Palemtto gave them. They ran the ball just enough to keep Palmetto honest defensively while their own defense washed out the run game and harassed the quarterback all night long.

Heusman scored the final TD of the night on a short TD run extending the Braden River lead to 35-0 with 1:59 remaining in the game.
