Bloomingdale Bulls Make School History

Bloomingdale Bulls Make School History
Hanna Yi

As a former Bloomingdale Bull, it’s great to see this football make great strides. Since the beginning of this football program, in 1987, there have only been 4 seasons where the football team has gone .500 or better. The most recent, being in 2008, where the Bulls went onto to be District Runner-Ups for the first time in the school’s history. Well, the 2011 Bulls, under Head Coach John Booth, have made school history, this time only into the second game of the season. For the first time in the 24 years of the football program, the Bulls are starting the season 2-0. Considering that in the last 24 years, their record holds to 57-183, it’s an un-BULL-ievable start.

The 2011 Bulls started with a 1-0 as they went on to beat the Chamberlain Chiefs 25-20. Going into game 2, they were only the 5th football in school history to start 1-0. Yet, they were going to have the opportunity to do what the others couldn’t accomplish. If they beat Strawberry Crest (at Crest) on Friday, they would become the first team to start a season 2-0. On Friday night, these Bulls came out wanting to be “that team”. The hunger and desire to make school history drove these Bulls to beat the Strawberry Crest Chargers 40-6. Leading the way for the Bulls was QB, Cody Crouse who threw a 24-yd pass to WR/RB Eugene Baker for the first score of the night. The Chargers retaliated with a touchdown run to even the score as they went into the half.

However, the second half of the game clearly belonged to the Bulls, and more specifically Baker, as he scored the next three touchdowns on runs of 80, 23, and 10 yards. Baker ended the night with over 200 receiving and rushing yards, in which 178 of those came off 16 runs.

If this offensive line keeps helping their RB out, there’s a good chance they could make history again next week, going 3-0, with a win against East Bay. However, even as they celebrate, these Bulls have to remain focused on the team that they play next week. And for the opponents that slept on Bloomingdale the past few years, you might be singing a different tune this year, to the beat of the Rajun Marching Bulls Band! This is one team that has some athletes, and has obviously been well-coached and become stronger as a whole throughout the summer. Coach Booth might have the answers that many Bloomingdale fans and alumni have been waiting for. With this coaching staff, this team may surprise many people. Luckily, there’s one thing that Bloomingdale’s football teams have never lacked, and that’s a full stadium on any given night, whether it’s at home in Charley Harris Stadium or at an opponent’s stadium. The Bulls loyals will follow them no matter where, and they bring a lot of noise with them! Good luck to the Bulls as they try to have possibly the best season that Bloomingdale has yet to see!
