Evan Jennings | Hillsborough 6-3 175 | CB, WR 2012: This senor is special. He had 5 catches for 105 yards. He told me that he is in talks with about 10 schools, and after highlights from this game get added to his reel, he may be talking to 15-20 schools. He made three truly memorable catches. On his 19-yard TD reception the pass was slightly underthrown, but he leapt over the 6-foot tall CB William Watson and snared the ball out of the air at its highest point. Perfect execution. Great hands. Great body control.
Later in the game on third and long Jeremy Agrinzonis was scrambling and found Jennings along the sideline. Agrinzonis made a nice pass to a place where only Jennings had a shot at catching it. Jennings extended himself, his body out of bounds, and made a diving catch somehow keeping his feet in bounds.
With the game wrapped up in the fourth Hillsborough inserted its freshman quarterback James Pensyl. There was still a little bit of time left in the game and Hillsborough was facing a third and long. Jennings, who had been on the sideline, came back in the game to “make a play.” Pensyl under threw Jennings badly and the ball was intercepted by Watson, or so it would seem. As the two players battled, in mid air, Jennings ripped the ball from Watson’s hands and came down with it for a 30-yard gain.
“He [Jennings] got a scholarship offer on that one play right there,” Garcia said. “It wasn’t a jump ball, but it was underthrown and he just took it away from a Division I prospect. He [Jennings] is going to be as good as he wants to be.”
Anthony Brown | Hillsborough 6-0 185 | Ath 2012: A Purdue commit, Brown again carried this team’s ground game. While I do not have his total yardage numbers he did score three touchdowns and every time he touches the ball it’s like everyone holds their breath. He has great agility, smooth cuts and sees the field extremely well.
Armaud Herndon | Hillsborough 5-9 165 | DB 2012: Does he have size? No. What he does well: He is a very sure tackler and even for his size has no problem taking on a blocking wide receiver and shaking him to make a tackle. He puts himself in position to make plays and when the ball is in his hands, watch out. He intercepted two passes; the first was a looping pass that he undercut and outjumped the Dragons’ receiver, he was tackled immediately. The second interception he was playing centerfield and read the quarterback’s eyes. He jumped a deep cross and returned it 30 yards, making defenders miss, breaking tackles down to the 10 yard line.
Earl Moore, Jordan Sherit, Nigel Harris, Travis Lyons | Hillsborough Defensive Line: All of these guys have been talked about. Moore is a verbal to Miami. Harris, Sherit are projected to be BCS bound. The name we haven’t heard a lot of is Travis Lyons. A 6-0 175 senior he’s listed as a SS, but played DE opposite Nigel Harris all game.
William Watson | Jefferson 6-0 190 | Ath 2012: The Iowa State commit was literally everywhere. There are only two places where we didn’t see Watson play: offensive and defensive line. Yes, he was 1-on-1 against Jennings and Jennings had a huge game. The key there is that he was 1-on-1 versus Jennings. Something that should have never happened. He needed safety help over the top; anyone covering Jennings needs safety help over the top. Watson’s biggest impact on the game was on kick returns. Hillsborough did the smart thing; they squibbed every kickoff allowing its kick team to get down field, but even still Watson was electrifying. He returned each return out to at least the 30 and each time he was one block away from taking it to the house.
Tyriq Mccord |Jefferson 6-3 225 |DE 2012: It’s no secret how good Mccord is, but he was neutralized by Hillsborough’s attack. Terriers’ HC Garcia said that they ran away from Mccord. In my book, that is the ultimate compliment from an opposing coach. Mccord did make one big splash play defensively as he strung out an outside run and made the tackle for a four yard loss. Offensively, Jefferson was not able to get the ball in his hands at all.
Charles Booth | Jefferson 5-10 175 | WR, DB 2012: l was impressed with Booth on both sides of the ball. He had one breakout play in the third when he made an acrobatic catch and came down with one foot kicking the end zone pylon. Other than that play, which will definitely be added to his highlight reel, he just had a solid all around game. He had a few tackles, defended a few passes, and is a pretty decent blocker on the outside as well.
Dezrick Ingram | Jefferson 5-10 210 | LB, RB 2013: Two sacks; One pass deflection; Four tackles. Who is this kid? He is an extremely fast pass rusher. He pressured the Hillsborough offensive line, a lot and when he made a hit in the back field everyone knew it.
