BULLET POINTS FROM THE BARTOW LOSS. Oviedo 7A State Champions
Final Score: Oviedo 55 Bartow 52. A few questionable calls in this game especially the with 3 seconds left on the clock, Derrick Brooks (Bartow) at the line shooting 1 and 1, makes the first, misses the second and the ball gets kicked out of bounds by Oviedo’s Matt Milon. The call went in favor of Oviedo and Bartow would not have a chance to tie the game or win in the final seconds.
But, that play was not the deciding factor. See the bullet points below.
- On the biggest stage, Bartow did not play their cleanest game. Usually very decisive and secure with the basketball, Bartow uncharacteristically turned the ball over 18 times which led to 22 of Oviedo’s 55 total points.
- Bartow’s Tony Bradley (Team Player of the Game) was unstoppable in the first half of the contest. The big sophomore center scored 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. However, Oviedo limited his production in the second half, collapsing the defense at each block. Making it hard for the Bartow guards to make a good entry pass. Bradley scored just 4 points in the last two periods finishing the game with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
- The combination of Qua Harper and RJ June stunned the Jackets defense. The two players combined for 31 points and 7 rebounds. Both players played great.
- Oviedo played at a higher tempo. Their transition offense was very effective and their transition defense matched the speedy offense of Bartow.
- Versus Melbourne, Bartow guards Derrick Brooks scored 9 points and dished out 7 assist while Deyontre Jordan played great; scoring 20 points, grabbing 4 rebounds and 2 dimes. Tonight, Brooks and Jordan combined for 22 points and 10 assist. Oviedo prevented them from getting good looks at the basket.
