Ball State changes Shug Oyegunle’s opinion

Shug Oyegunle, Gaither 2013 ATH visited Ball State University this past weekend. Sought after by several Non BCS programs, Shug is trying to sort through the recruiting madness. First stop, Ball State.

“The visit this weekend was wonderful. I had a great time with the coaching staff and the players. They were all cool and outgoing,” Oyegunle stated. He finished his senior season 4th on the team in rushing yards (227) and 3rd on the team in receiving yards (468).

What really open his eyes was the campus, “How it’s connected to everything. You don’t have to go far from campus”. The 2007 renovation was funded by generous private gifts, including $4 million from former Ball State football player John Scheumann and his wife, June. Business executive Paul Kozel and his wife, Patricia, made a $1.25 million gift, while fundraising campaign chairman John Fisher and his wife, Janice, gave $510,000. – ballstatesports.com

Because Oyegunle can do so much, where would he fit into their offensive scheme? In our evaluation, we project Shug as a slot receiver with the ability turn a short play into a big one. “I could definitely fit in their scheme because of the type of offense they run (spread). It’s really explosive and high pace and that’s basically me”.

Ball State finished the season 9-4 after a Beef O’ Brady Bowl loss to Central Florida. But not being very familiar with school, knowing little except for the good season they had, Oyegunle came away highly impressed. “This school definitely changed my opinion in a good way because it allowed me to see that this football program is really good and that it’s on the rise. Overall it was just fun and a great atmosphere”.
