I attempted to head to Maxpreps first to compare stats. This would have helped in an argument that will conclude very close. However, the player from Wesley Chapel had incomplete stats on Maxpreps. So, I will have to go without it. Austin Sessums, Wesley Chapel (QB, 2017, 6-0/160) versus Austyn Causey, St. Petersburg (QB, 2017, 5-11/155), two names when quarterbacks are spoken of at the local Hooters, never some up. Unless you are Mr. Sessums or Mr. Causey. Those two fathers better hide these Hooters receipts before they get home [laughter].
Back to the topic, If you like the QB that will go against the grain, break off a play and make something out of nothing, two of your best examples fall on the jerseys of Sessums and Causey. Who is better? That’s the million dollar question. Causey is a better passer than credited. The Green Devils run a wing-t offense not allowing Austin to showcase his passing ability.
Causey 1
Sessum 0
Hold your horses! Let’s get into the open field. The play breaks down, now what? Well, Sessums can make things happen with his feet. He has excellent feet and very crafty. Causey also. But, he has more opportunity because he is very much part of the run game due to the wing-t scheme. The youngster at Wesley Chapel is a sweet player and has a feel for the game. Feels the pocket and knows he is rarely in trouble because he can get out of tough situations.
Causey 1
Sessum 1
What’s the tiebreaker? When it comes to the traditional quarterback with accuracy, mechanics, ball handling, delivery, etc. it is hard to determine because St. Pete’s passer is rarely in a drop back situation where he can show footwork, accuracy, mechanics, ball handling and delivery. Both kids have the advantage of being very mobile and good passers. The final score stays 1-1.
