Armwood surges past Tampa Bay Tech, 40-7

SEFFNER —
The Armwood fans that packed Lyle Flagg field for the home opener had to wait a little longer than expected to see their nationally ranked Hawks put their talent on display.

After 2 quarters of football, Armwood was only up 10-7 over the Titans, a score that was sure to turn a few heads. The following 24 minutes reminded everyone that despite key injuries, Armwood is still a force to be reckoned with.

With star RB Matt Jones and QB Darryl Richardson watching from the sidelines, the Hawks scored 30 unanswered points to pick up their 3rd win of the season, 40-13 over Tampa Bay Tech.

The defense provided the biggest spark, as Hawks linebacker Eric Striker knocked the ball out of TB Tech QB Aaron Midthus’ hand and into the hands of defensive lineman Allen Covington, who took it back 28 yards for a touchdown.

The Hawks Wade Edwards closed the game out in the 4th quarter with a 69-yard TD run.

Armwood Coach Sean Callahan indicated that Matt Jones should return to action next Friday night against Leto. He is also holding out hope that Darryl Richardson will be available, but his status is less certain.

The Titans fall to 1-2 on the season.
