TAMPA, SEPT. 14, 2017 – The American Athletic Conference, with the cooperation of its member schools, today announced the rescheduling of numerous games that will allow for USF and several conference members to play a complete conference schedule in the wake of postponements caused by hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
The changes, which involve several conference schools, will allow for the rescheduling of USF’s postponed East Division matchup with UConn as well as the playing of many other postponed conference games.
“USF is committed to being a great partner in the American Athletic Conference,” said USF Director of Athletics Mark Harlan. “We are determined to do what is necessary to play a full conference schedule to determine a true conference champion. These changes are not easy for anyone, and I am proud of how our fellow conference schools have worked together to make schedule adjustments under the direction of Commissioner Mike Aresco. I am grateful for the cooperation of our opponents whose games had to be moved in this process, particularly UMass and Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford, and also for the understanding of our fans.”
The USF vs. UConn game, previously scheduled for Sept. 9 in Connecticut, will now be played on Sat., Nov. 4 in Connecticut.
The USF vs. Houston game, previously scheduled for Nov. 4 in Tampa, will now be played on Sat., Oct. 28 at Raymond James Stadium.
The USF vs. Cincinnati game, previously scheduled for Oct. 28 in Tampa, will now be played on Sat., Oct. 14 at Raymond James Stadium. USF’s Homecoming game will remain on Oct. 14, now with the Bearcats as the opponent.
The USF vs. UMass non-conference game, previously scheduled for Oct. 14 in Tampa, will not be played this season and will be moved to either the 2022 or 2023 season. The date will be determined at a later time. USF will maintain its commitment to play at UMass next season on Oct. 6.
The rest of USF’s 2017 schedule remains unchanged, including two previously scheduled bye weeks, which occur the week of Oct. 7 and the week of Nov. 11.
“We understand that the changes mean that USF will go from seven home games to six and that these changes may adversely affect the plans for some fans,” Harlan said. “As with the many changes that have occurred over the last week due to the impact of the hurricane, we appreciate our fans flexibility and understanding.”
THINGS TO KNOW
WITH THE LOSS OF A HOME GAME, HOW WILL SEASON TICKET MEMBERS BE COMPENSATED?
USF is committed to honoring season ticket members and their investment in the program. USF will e-mail specific information to season ticket members within the next two to three weeks once options are finalized regarding either a proportional refund or credit towards the 2018 season, which would include tickets and parking.
HOW WILL SEASON PARKING PASSES BE AFFECTED?
Season parking passes will be honored BASED ON THE OPPONENT printed on the pass. For example, the Cincinnati parking pass is still good for the Cincinnati game on its new date. The UMass parking pass will not be honored.
HOW WILL SINGLE GAME TICKET PURCHASES BE AFFECTED?
Tickets purchased for USF’s game vs. UMass will be refunded or may be exchanged for tickets to any USF conference home game.
Tickets for opponents remaining on the USF home schedule for which dates were changed will not be reissued, but will be honored BASED ON THE OPPONENT PRINTED ON THE TICKET on the new date for the game. If the ticket holder is unable to attend the game on the new date they will be refunded the ticket price.
All single game ticket purchasers will receive communication from USF Athletics regarding these options.
WHAT ABOUT TICKETS FOR THE GAME AT UCONN?
Fans that purchased a ticket for the postponed game at UConn, which have been refunded, will have priority for ticket purchases for the Nov. 4 game. For all purchases for this game, please call 1-800-GoBulls.
WHAT IS THE IMPACT ON GAME TIMES?
USF’s previously announced game dates and times for nationally televised contests vs. Temple (Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m.) and Tulsa (Nov. 16 at 8:00 p.m.) have not changed.
All other game times will be announced under the conference’s standard selection process and will be communicated when available.
HOW DO THESE CHANGES AFFECT HOMECOMING?
USF’s Homecoming game will remain on Sat., Oct. 14, but will now be played against conference foe Cincinnati. If you purchased a ticket for the UMass game previously scheduled for this date, you may exchange that ticket for a ticket to the Cincinnati game.
WHY NOT PLAY UMASS ON ANOTHER 2017 DATE?
While many options were discussed, several factors prevented the game being moved to another 2017 date. The game will be scheduled for 2022 or 2023.
WILL USF LOSE REVENUE WITH THE LOSS OF A 2017 HOME GAME?
USF has been assured by the American Athletic Conference that it will be compensated for the loss of one home game in the 2017 season.
WILL THERE BE ANY ATTEMPT TO ADD A 12th FOOTBALL GAME IN 2017?
We do not expect any additional changes to our schedule.
