After 1 season, Gerald Dickens steps down as Strawberry Crest head football coach

After a 1-9 season, being outscored 80-439 and multiple grumblings from Strawberry Crest parents, Gerald Dickens has stepped down as the head football coach at Strawberry Crest after 1 season. “The Administration and I decided to go in a different direction. I have the opportunity to seek other opportunities”, said Dickens.

The Chargers were at the bottom of the toughest district in Hillsborough County with their lone win coming against winless Leto. The transition to the head coaching job was not without some bumps as some Charger fans and players expressed their disappointment with the administration after ex-head coach, Todd Donohoe unexpectedly resigned. If that was not enough, a Facebook page pop up during the season screaming for Donohoe’s return.

“I appreciate the opportunity and enjoyed my time as the head coach of the Chargers, but at this time I must move forward”, says Dickens. Strawberry Crest is the 6th Hillsborough County school going through a coaching change with a few more rumored to occur.
