Advantage East Lake? Can Marauders shock the Bay?

Our SPORTS FORUM blew up this week with members debating about the outcome of the East Lake vs. Clearwater Central Catholic game tonight. The BCP staff is split down the middle on who they believe will win this game (SEE PREDICTIONS). East Lake will enter as a heavy favorite, but CCC has a good chance at upsetting the Mighty Eagles. I size up the competition between the two.

QB – East Lake
Pete Dinovo is one of the area’s Best QBs. CCC will start either Jake Shad or Jake Hood. Either will need to play lights out, but Dinovo is the most dominant of the 3 and has the advantage here.

RB – Tie
The premier position for both teams, are the running backs. Neither team can boast a 1000 yard 2010 rusher, but Tyler Lane of East Lake and Justin Goodloe, CCC are as good as they come. One will have to outperform the other tonight. No advantage for either team here.

WR – East Lake
Sophomore, East Lake receiver, Artavious Scott is a BCP top 49 player. But he is not the only receiving threat for EL. 6-3 freshman, George Campbell and 6-4 TE, Stephen Buric and dangerous. CCC has their own play makers on the outside, starting with 2013 prospect Trey Larry and Richard Gornik. Add TE, Caanan Brown to the mix and the Marauders have some firepower. The only reason EL gains an advantage here is because of the QB play.

OL – East Lake
Jordan Kidder, Matt Fox, Shane Fagen, Keaton Cole, and Mason Cole construct the biggest offensive line in Pinellas County. With that said, they will have to perform with those big bodies. Size and experience give East Lake the advantage

DL – Tie
Neither team is known for a dominant push upfront. The eyes will be open to see which group of defensive linemen will make a huge impact in this game.

LB – CCC
I am going with the group from CCC here. Ethan Thompson, Ryan Lewandowski and Caanan Brown are a solid bunch. I believe I am missing a name out the group of LBs, but all can run and are tough in the middle.

DBs – CCC
Surprise? Could be…but this group is very athletic. Michael Stevenson, Devon Garratt and Trey Larry could play at any high school level. The 3 make up for a talented bunch that will make it difficult for the East Lake receivers to find some open space. Now, the Eagles have a good group with Scott, Abraham and Campbell. The experience of the CCC group gives them the edge.
