The defensive MVP was an easy selection. Collectively as a defensive unit, Team Tampa played well. However, Aaron Covington was an instant impact, obvious addition and shot in the arm for the team.

Covington did not play Saturday because he played with his team (Armwood) at another 7 on 7 Tournament. He did show up and show out on Sunday. I would go as far as saying he may have been a top 3 defensive performer overall at the tournament on Sunday. But, my assessment would not be thorough because I only focused on Team Tampa and their opponents.

With that said, Covington did not just make plays, he made plays at the right time. When it was 3rd down, Covington made plays to get the defense off the field. When there was an attempt at the end zone, Covington was there to prevent the score. He basically locked down his side of the field all Sunday. It was refreshing to see a defensive player dominate a passing tournament of that magnitude the way he did.
