A Strong Start To The Offseason

With couple of camps already in the books this off-season, we will start taking a look at some of the guys who have stood out.

2023 DE/TE Daryl “DJ” Jones (6’5” 230 lbs) – Sumner

Jones possesses the tools to very successful at the next level. His blend of size, speed, and power has already drawn the attention of colleges. He has pulled in offers from USF, Howard, West Virginia, Iowa State, and FAU. As a junior, he registered 25 total tackles, 8 sacks, 6 tackles for loss, and 1 forced fumble.

2025 DE/OLB Cameron White (6’2” 215 lbs) – Sumner

White is an outstanding freshman who is going to be nationally recruited. He already pulled in an early offer from West Virginia. In the fall, the gifted freshman had 24 total tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries, and 2 interceptions. White returned both of them for touchdowns. He is a playmaker with an exceptional skillset.

2024 QB Kyle Horvath (6’2” 180 lbs) – Land O’ Lakes

Thanks to the Weatherfords, the Land O’ Lakes football program knows what an elite quarterback looks like, and Kyle Horvath will likely be the Gators’ next one. He accounted for 2,166 yards and 29 touchdowns in 2021. He has good size and a great arm for a sophomore. He is working hard to build on his early success. It is also important to note that his top target, Kennen Ayala, will also be back next season. The duo connected for 1,170 yards and 16 touchdowns in the fall.

2023 OLB/SS R.J. Kelly (6’2” 220 lbs) – Kathleen

Kelly is a physical defender who stood out for the Red Devils’ this past season. He moves really well and is a strong tackler. He doesn’t have any statistics posted on Max Preps, but he has some solid film. He has been racking up some nice early offers this winter. Polk County has another star-in-the-making here.
