A New Member of Sparta

Riverview, FL – Spoto Head Coach Dale Caparaso has announced that former Palm Harbor University Offensive Coordinator Don Mesick has accepted the same position for the Spartans. Mesick  is credited in large part for his ability to breathe life into PHU’s dormant offense which was averaging 26 points a game last season through it’s first 6 games before injuries and suspensions to key players affected the chemistry.

“I am extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity to be a member of a great staff. Coach Cap is a very accomplished coach and I look forward to learning from him while at the same time introducing some new ideas.” said Mesick whose offensive scheme is very much rooted in the Spread. Something that is a little different than what the Spartans have run in the past.

One of the biggest changes comes in the actual geography of the move from Palm Harbor in Northern Pinellas to Riverview which is situated some 36 miles to the Southeast in Hillsborough County (or over an hour’s drive with traffic). The feeling is that it’s all worth it though and that Mesick may end up like a kid in a candy store out in Progress Village.

Head Coach Dale Caparaso’s high praise for Mesick certainly help made the decision to commute a much easier one. “Coach is the sharpest offensive mind I have interviewed in 30 years. He will fit in with us well.”

Mesick is already convinced that the Spartan Nation is a good place to be and he’s chomping at the bit to get his new job going. ‘”Spoto is a long way from home, but it really felt like home. I can’t wait to get started.”
