Florida high school baseball is already heating up, and the stat leaders are giving us a glimpse of what kind of season we’re in for. From strikeout machines to red-hot bats, here are five early trends you need to know.
1. The Arms Are Already in Midseason Form
The strikeout numbers across the state are jumping off the page. Chapter Jones (Lake Weir) and Juancarlos Moreno (TERRAE) lead the way with 18 punchouts each, and they’ve done it in just 2–3 appearances. Payton Sturrup (North Fort Myers) has 17 Ks in only 6.2 innings, which is flat-out dominant. Mathew Altman from Gaither in Tampa is also making noise with 14 strikeouts in 7 innings. You can check the full strikeout leaderboard here: Strikeout Leaders.
2. Small Sample Sizes, But Some Perfect Swings
It’s early, so batting averages are a little wild, but there are multiple hitters sitting at a perfect 1.000. Brady Green (FCA Valrico), Brayden Kleibl (DeLand), and Kayden Thomas (Space Coast) are all flawless through their first games. A few Tampa-area names like Justin Estevez and Nahz Taylor from Chamberlain are also off to hot starts. Obviously, the at-bats are limited, but confidence builds fast in February. See the full batting average table here: Batting Average Leaders.
3. The Power Bats Are Showing Up Early
The long ball is already in play across Florida. Wyatt Taylor (Port St. Lucie), Kristopher Colondres (North Fort Myers), and Alex Rodriguez (Plant City) each have 2 home runs in just a couple of games. That’s serious early-season pop. Even players like Albert Antinori (Gaither, Tampa) and Kaiden Johnson (Jefferson, Tampa) are getting in on the action. Full home run leaders can be found here: Home Run Leaders.
4. RBI Producers Are Capitalizing on Traffic
Driving in runs is what wins games, and several players are already thriving with runners on base. Jaydon Bryant (Port St. Lucie), Blaize Baldepina (North Fort Myers), and Bryce VandenBerg (LWCHS) all have 7 RBIs in just two or three games. Jefferson (Tampa) has Sam Hyman on the board with 7 RBIs as well, showing some serious offensive balance. When guys are producing like this early, it usually means lineups are clicking. Check the full RBI list here: RBI Leaders.
5. Jacksonville’s CSJ Is Lighting Up the Scoreboard
If you’re looking for a team that’s filling up the runs column, keep an eye on CSJ (Jacksonville). Landon Jones leads the group with 8 runs scored, while Orlando Gutierrez Jr., Tristan Woods, and Ryne Fennell all have 7. That’s four players near the top of the statewide leaderboard from one program. Sarasota’s CMHS and Port St. Lucie also have multiple names near the top. Full runs leaderboard here: Runs Leaders.
It’s still early in the Florida high school baseball season, but the talent is already obvious. The pitching depth is real, the bats are waking up fast, and a few programs are separating themselves right away. If this is what February looks like, spring baseball in Florida is going to be must-watch. ⚾🔥
