Slammed between several talented programs in Pinellas County sits Boca Ciega High, which has been playing varsity football since 1954. In 2016, the Pirates have several collegiate level athletes on roster. Following is a quick breakdown on a handful of their junior prospects.
Sam Thompson, Boca Ciega, 2017, WR
Strength – Good speed, good quickness. Excels with body control and displays really strong hands when challenged by defenders. Love his concentration.
Working to develop – A strong offseason will improve his overall acceleration and explosion. Will be able to pull away from faster defenders and show a greater burst.
Marquis Bell, Boca Ciega, 2017, DT
Strength – 6 foot 2 inches and 270-280 pounds. Shows good coordination and lateral movement at the size. Looks to have good upper and lower body strength. Does a good job neutralizing defenders in the run game.
Working to develop – More tools in his “Pass Rush” toolbox. Getting to the QB will be his primary focus and adding a variety of moves will help in his effort.
Landrick Johnson, Boca Ciega, 2017, DE
Strength – Good lateral movement and measurable at 6 foot 3 inches. Great recognition. Finds the football when tangled up with blockers. Shows good lower body strength and plays with low pads the majority of the snaps.
Working to develop – His takeoff and overall speed.
Letayveon Beaton, Boca Ciega, 2017, S
Strength – Really good game speed and transition. Crazy physical! Always looking to blow up ball carriers. Able to fill the alley from 15 yards away or play close to the line of scrimmage.
Working to develop – Need to see him in man to man situations versus receivers.
