Mess with Bull–you get the ‘Horns

Wiregrass Ranch’s Shamaur McDowell is someone you should be paying attention to if you’re a fan of Wiregrass Ranch and beyond. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound CB/RB/ATH is making noise up in Pasco and looks to be one of the leaders on the defense when the Bulls return to spring practice in May and well beyond that.

He’s used all over the field–and for good reason. McDowell’s athleticism is apparent from the moment you pop in his film. On offense last season, McDowell carried the ball from the running back position, but his biggest damage was in the return game on special teams. McDowell finished the season with 192 all-purpose yards.

The defensive side–and out on the island in particular–is where you watch McDowell do some of his best work, though. He racked up 26 tackles in 2015–21 of those solo–along with four interceptions, 11 pass deflections and a fumble recovery for the Bulls.

As mentioned, McDowell’s extremely athletic–hence the reason for his “ATH” status. He can be a weapon on special teams as mentioned, but his playmaking ability once he’s made an interception means he’s a threat to score even after he’s taken the ability of the opposing offense to score.

McDowell’s very solid in one-on-one pass coverage with good hips and feet. He possesses good closing speed in cases he’s been beat by the receiver which allows him to still make plays. He obviously can play the cornerback position, but don’t be surprised with his tackling ability of you see him at the safety position at the next level. McDowell is also slated to be in attendance at Ignite this weekend putting his talents on display for the folks.
