In 2013 the Gibbs Gladiators posted a 4-6 season under first year head coach, Rick Kravitz. Lots of bright moments, even more moments to learn from. A more experienced team will return this season and one coach on staff believes the Gladiators will surprise some people.
Gibbs linebacker coach, Rob Tirado is going into his second season as a Gladiator. His first stint was in 2012 and believes this 2014 season will be a good one. He took the time to share some information with us about where the Gladiators stand at this point in spring football.
BCP: Where has your team grown since the end of 2013?
RT: We are more mature in or understanding of the game of football and each player fits into our scheme.
BCP: Who are your team leaders and why?
RT: Craig Watts and Zac Murray who leads in the classroom, in the weight room and on the field.
BCP: What players do you expect to make a splash in 2014?
RT: Marquez Walls, Dorian Williams, Roy Williams, L’Dre Barnes and Demond Perry.
BCP: How did the coaching staff improve?
RT: We return most of our staff from the previous season with additions of Bobby Lindsey former college football coach and Plant City OC and myself Rob Tirado former DC at Boca Ciega, Gibbs, Jesuit and Robinson.
BCP: How did your players respond to the offseason training?
RT: Our student athletes have embraced our head coach’s vision for Gibbs and have bought into what it means to be a true Gibbs Gladiator!
