SC2011: Wharton

Wharton
Head Coach: David Mitchell
2010 Record: 3-7

2011 District: Class 8A – 6
Alonso
Bloomingdale
Plant
Wharton

Short Capsule: 5 wins in the last 2 seasons is not what Wharton football is accustomed to. David Mitchell is a very discipline man and his team will need to “follow the leader” in order to achieve the success the Wildcats experienced in the past. Chase Litton will be the target guy this year, looked upon to orchestrate scoring drive, show leadership and keep the team gelled together. But Litton will need help. The defense will need some re-tooling, but the secondary should be the strength revolving around 2013 prospect, Vernon Hargreaves Jr, CB. Wharton will need to be solid on defense and limit the big plays in order to give Litton and the offense the best chance to control the tempo of each game.

“Saying Goodbye” (graduation or transfer):
Marvin Murray, WR
David Larry, RB
Shaq Williams, WR
Tanner Stocker, S
Chowdele’t Pierie, DL
Bradley Prior, LB

“Hello Again” (key returners or potential Impact Players):
Chase Litton, QB, 2014
Vernon Hargreaves, CB, 2013
Alex Noble, K, 2012
Nyere Thompson, WR, 2012

“Fun Fact”: David Mitchell’s first 4 seasons as the Wildcat head football coach (2005-2008), the Cats were 32-13 claiming the district title in ’05 and ’08. Wharton in 2002 went 13-2, entered the state playoffs as district runner-Up and lost in the state finals under head coach Richard Wood

“Must Have”:
• More unpredictable on offense
• Continue to depend on a solid run game
• Give QB, Chase Litton more of the playbook as he builds confidence and shows consistency

“Uh-oh”: Litton will grow to become a great passer, but Wharton can not afford to stop pounding the ball.
