A new year brings a new look for the 2012 Hillsborough Terriers. A rejuvenated coaching staff, headed by long-time head coach Earl Garcia, will play major roles in how Hillsborough finishes next year. With long-time defensive coordinator Dean Eychner accepting a head coaching job at Brandon, the Terriers will rely on a new staff to make some big changes.
Hillsborough (9-3 in 2011) is the home of the No. 7, Jordan Sherit, and No. 35, Nigel Harris, prospects in Tampa Bay.
The Terriers practice was extremely organized and position-focused. They spent a lot of time working on special teams and going over fundamentals
Jordan Sherit, 2013, DE/TE – Not a whole lot is going to stop Sherit this year. He is just a beast and is still growing. He’ll play both DE and TE for the Terriers and recently was offered by Stanford, as a TE. He is the top-ranked DE in Tampa Bay.
Nigel Harris, 2013, LB – The ILB owns six offers and continues to impress. He is ranked as the top ILB prospect in Tampa Bay and boasts a nice frame. He has good speed and quickness and is violent at the point of attack.
Curtis Thomas, 2013, WR – Thomas caught 6 passes as a junior, averaging over 32 yards per reception. He is a good looking prospect standing near 6-feet 4-inches tall, around 190 pounds. He’s set up to be the No. 1 target for the Terriers and should turn into a nice prospect.
Xavier Byrd, 2015, RB/DB – Coaches are excited about this youngster. Byrd is a bit undersized, but is supported by a thick lower body and has quick feet.
Anthony King, 2015, DB/RB – He saw limited action as a freshman averaging nearly 7 yards per carry. King will be a par of the four, or five team backfield. He’ll also be major factor in holding down the backend of the Hillsborough defense.
Trevor Steinke, 2013, RB – Another RB that Terriers’ coaches are very excited about. He will likely carry the ball more than his counterparts and anchor a backfield that will be key in how the Terriers perform this year.
Lilrobert Wilson, 2013, DB – Following a stellar junior season where he tied for a team-best 6 interceptions and recorded 75 tackles.
Jeremiah Green, 2013, DB – He’s the fastest player on the field, and a state champion – in the triple jump. Green is currently being held out of practice due to his busy track and field schedule, but he was on the sidelines, healthy, and excited about his state championship.
Jaykwon Hosey, 2013, LB – A big boy that brings major pop as he blows plays up at the line of scrimmage. He only saw action in 4 games last year, but he will be called upon to make a splash in 2012.

James Pensyl, 2015, QB – Seeing limited action as a freshman Pensyl threw for 128 yards. He played against two of the best teams in the state, Plant once and Armwood twice. At 6-feet 4-inches tall Pensyl passes the eye test and posses a strong arm to go along with solid footwork. He’ll battle for the starting job in 2012.
Bryan Hammond, 2013, WR – I’m possibly most intrigued by Hammond. He has a great build, standing near 6-feet 4-inches tall and weighing around 190 pounds. He however didn’t play last season because he was focused on basketball. He’ll be a nice prospect to keep an eye on and definitely passes the eye test.
