HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY PINELLAS COUNTY

Easier Said Than Done: New Head Coaches Get Initiated First Week

Fifteen new Head Coaches in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties made their debut last Friday. Some of them experienced success, while others didn’t fair too well.  In their first week with live bullets, those coaches went 6-9 overall with Pinellas taking the honors at 4-3.  Gibbs’ Antonio Knox, Palm Harbor University’s Matt Lepain, and Canterbury’s Bill Jones all picked up wins, while  Boca Ciega, Dunedin, and St. Pete Catholic had their openings go in the other direction. Hillsborough’s new guns didn’t have as much luck going 2-6, although Alonso’s new man Brian Emmanuel led the Ravens in the post-Anthony Chickillo Era to a win over bitter rival Gaither, as well as Frank LaRosa’s East Bay squad got off on the right track against Lennard.  The newly appointed captains of the ship at Jefferson (Jeremy Earle), Middleton (Alonzo Ashwood), Strawberry Crest (Gerold Dickens), and Tampa Bay Tech (Jason Roberts) all experienced defeat in their week one tilts. All of that has passed, and the new week brings a new chance at redemption or an opportunity to continue the momentum from last.  What will the new week hold? We’ll see come Friday Night.
