We’ve already got a week of high school football under our belts, one that a lot of teams were able to reflect on, grow, and learn from for the real test – the regular season. We saw some good performances all around, but there were a lot of new faces previously unseen by the masses. Today begins a two part series about who you need to watch out for as we progress through the season.
Yafeo Davis, Malik Johnson, Jael Feliz, 2017, 2019, 2019, RB, Alonso:
The Ravens’ rushing attack was working on all cylinders in their 24-7 win over Countryside on Friday. All three had over 50 yards rushing on the night. Davis ran for two touchdowns and Feliz ran in for one, according to Scott Purks of the Tampa Bay Times, and it looks like the three backs are going to be special for the Ravens after a tough offseason. Watch out for all three as Head Coach Brian Emanuel now has some depth to the position that a lot were concerned about over the offseason.
Tydre Ward, 2017 ATH, Plant City:
Just one of the Ward brothers for the Raiders (we’ll talk about his brother in a second), the senior took the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown against Riverview on Friday night. He also had a punt return for a touchdown, but that was called back for an illegal block in the back, irrelevant to the play. Ward is special, with quick feet and an ability to make guys miss. His brother, Treshaun, will be the next man up for the Raiders rushing game, with a rushing touchdown and some good runs.
Zamari Maxwell, 2017 QB, Pinellas Park:
Maxwell isn’t exactly a new face to the BCP and the Bay Area scene, but he is new at quarterback, and that’s why he makes the list. He’s still playing defensive back and had an interception against Robinson, according to Rodney Page of the Times. He finished 3 of 6 with 72 yards en route to the Patriots’ 29-0 victory against Robinson. Maxwell is filling in for Kai Washington, who may or may not come back to P-Park. If he stays at QB, watch for Maxwell to have even more of a special year in his senior year.
We’ll have three more new guys to watch out for this season tomorrow; breaking down some of the great performances from this past week about guys that you need to know about.
