The 2013 recruiting class is thick from top to bottom with studs like Jesuit’s Travis Johnson, Wharton’s Vernon Hargreaves and Lakewood’s Rodney Adams. Not to be outdone, the 2014 class has its own share of really good players.

At the top of the prospect list is East Lake’s offensive tackle, Mason Cole. Cole is a second year starter on what was, a solid Eagle offensive line, protecting the blind side for 2300 yard passer, Pete Dinovo and creating holes for 1500 yard rusher, Tyler Lane. The Eagles advanced to the 3rd round of the 2011 state playoffs this season for the 1st time in school history. They depended on a tough, power run attack and an opportunistic passing game. “We can be as good as anyone in the area”, said Cole. Unfortunately, the Eagles season ended to Plant in the regional finals, who eventually won the 8A state championship. But Cole feels that the Eagle’s offseason program and attitude should carry them to another successful 2012 season.

Cole was a 1st team selection on the 2011 All BCP Team and will eventually become a very highly recruited offensive line prospect whose name will pop up on every recruiting site. However, Cole knows he improved and has plenty of room to get so much better. “I really got better with my run blocking. I learned a few new techniques that helped me block some of the best defensive tackles around. I really want to get better with my pass protection”. Being 6-5 and 260 pounds will get Cole attention. But being just as impressive on film and in person will make Cole even more marketable. Offensive linemen don’t get much love and don’t get stats that are publicized. Cole estimates he ended the 2011 season with nearly 50 pancakes (Blocking a defender and putting that defender on his back).

Entering the offseason; Cole wants to take a few unofficial visits to Florida and South Florida. He will also be attending the US Army underclassman combine and BCP Ignite Showcase. Currently, South Florida, Florida State, Florida, Indiana and Ohio are expressing heavy interest in Cole.
