2013 ALL BCP

Player of the Year: DEIONDRE PORTER, JEFFERSON 2014 QB
Porter becomes the 6th winner of this award. The Award is presented to the most impressive area (Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas and Polk County) player based on overall season production and BIG GAME performances. Previous award winners include:

2008 – Dontae Aycock, QB, Chamberlain, Sr
2009 – James Wilder Jr., LB/RB, Plant, Jr
2010 – Quentin Williams, QB, Jefferson, Sr
2011 – Alvin Bailey, Armwood, Jr
2012 – Will Worth, Newsome, Sr

Versus Hillsborough, Porter accounted for 249 pass yards and 3 TDs. He threw for 196 yards, rushed for 149 yards and 1 TD in the regular season game against Armwood. On the road in round 1 of the state playoffs, Porter carried his team from behind with a 450 yard and 4 TD performance. Going down with a fight, Porter ended his career at Armwood where he passed for 456 yards and 6 TDs. His big game performances were just that, BIG!

Deiondre Porter, from Jefferson High School was named as overall winner from an initial list of 18 athletes that was later shortened to 5 area athletes. Porter finished the season with 3199 passing yards, 33 passing TDs, 1499 rushing yards and 20 rushing TDs. Porter led his team to a 10-2 2013 season record. Losing two games to one team (Armwood).

Jefferson head football coach, Jeremy Earle had this to say about Porter: “He is a special talent who dominated on the field, thrived at competition and demanded excellence from teammates. Deiondre’s performance this year will be difficult to ever surpass.”

Porter concludes his high school career completing 60% of his passes for 7365 yards, 77 passing TDs, 2035 rush yards and 27 TDs. This season he was #1 in our area in pass yards and passing TDs. He was #4 in rushing yards and rushing TDs. Porter accounted for 95% of Jefferson’s passing yards and 54% of the Dragon’s rushing yards.

Porter is currently a University of South Florida verbal commit and we should hear a ton about him during his college career.

Offensive Player of the Year: RAY-RAY McCLOUD, SICKLES 2015 RB
Area leader in rushing yards (2316), McCloud was more than just a ball carrier. He was a PROBLEM promised to occur for the opposing defense.

This year, McCloud set the standard for running backs. He rushed for 200 plus yards in 5 games this season. He rushed for 150 plus yards in 10 games this season. Yes, he amassed a ton of yards, but showed how durable he was by carrying the ball 300 times this season. He averaged 7.7 yards per carry and an astonishing 178 yards per game. What is frightening, McCloud returns next season!

Defensive Player of the Year: JOSH BLACK, SICKLES 2014 DL
Josh Black posted “James Wilder Jr” type numbers this year and was the most disruptive force on the field each game he played in. It did not matter where Black lined up; his presence was felt at all times. He played outside linebacker, inside linebacker and defensive end. But, he shined at defensive tackle where he played right over the ball and had a better chance to make a play no matter which way the offense went with the ball.

Black totaled double digit tackles in four of the 13 games this year. He had multiple tackles for loss in 8 games this year. For the season, Black totaled 103 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 20 sacks and 3 caused fumbles. He created opportunities for the offense to take over on downs and helped change the field position by sacking the passer or tackling the ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage.

Specialist Player of the Year: STERLING HOFRICHTER, ARMWOOD 2015 K/P
It is sometimes difficult to explain the importance of a good kicker. Let’s take a shot at it anyways. A good kicker can change the field position for the opponent. He/she can get the defense out of a bind, add points on the scoreboard, solidify a win, chop away at a led and even win the game.

Armwood’s Sterling Hofrichter did all of thee above. Of his 87 kickoffs, 67 were touchbacks. Of his 975 punt yards; he averaged 36.11 yards per kick. He kicked 71 PATs and made 99% of them (missed 1). He made 9 of 14 field goals with a long of 57. The kicker scored 97 of Armwood’s 567 points this season. He was a great defender and Armwood’s leading scorer.

Coach of the Year: SEAN CALLAHAN, ARMWOOD
Armwood went 14-0 before being defeated in the 6A state title game by Miami Central. Not unusual for Armwood to win that amount of games. But to win that quantity of games, where 13 of the 15 games COUNTED, is easier said than done. The Hawks were placed in a 9 team district where 3 other teams were playoff teams the previous year. Being able to rally the troops week in and week out, making them understand the importance of each game on the schedule and winning all 8 district games, 2 additional regular season games and 4 playoff games, is impressive. Having to replace the quarterback, half of the offensive line and half of the defense and still compete for a state title is nothing short of remarkable.
