2011 Preview: Top Offensive Units

2011 TOP OFFENSIVE UNITS

OFFENSIVE BACKFIELD

1 Armwood

Darryl Richardson, Armwood
Darryl Richardson, Armwood

QB Darryl Richardson will be replacing one of the most productive s Hawk QBs in recent years, Josh Grady. But, Richardson will take the bull by the horns with no experience. Who needs experience when you have the Area’s best running back behind you accompanied by one of the fastest ball carriers in the Gulf Cove? Matt Jones and Wade Edwards make for a killer combination. Jones is a national prospect who ran for over 1500 yards in 2010. Edwards is lightning in a bottle that can go the distance at anytime. Along with Richardson, this offensive backfield has the potential to be deadly.

2 Plant City
Bennie Coney is primed for a 2500 yard season. Behind him is third year starter and back to back 1K rusher, Dazmond Patterson. The two make their argument for one of the best backfields in the Bay.

3 Plant
QB James Few, RB Wesley Bullock and RB Paris Bostic will be excellent this year. Few brings varsity winning experience, athletic ism and an accurate arm. Bullock and Bostic give Plant a legitimate inside/outside running game.

4 Countryside
Miami commit, Gray Crow is a sharp shooting passer. But Countryside does not rely heavily on his arm. Yet, the cougars work their speedster Diomi Roberts who always gets the job done. Crow’s accurate intermediate game and Roberts’s homerun ability earn Countryside the #4 spot.

5 Tampa Bay Tech.
Cludner Lecount, Deon Thompson and Tre Caldwell are the high school version of the 2008 New York Giant running backs. Lecount and Thompson are great perimeter runners, while Caldwell is a bruiser on the inside. QB Aaron Midthus will provide a fourth runner with and good arm.

RECEIVERS

1 Tarpon Springs

Dondre Daley, Tarpon Springs
Dondre Daley, Tarpon Springs

Where do I start? Dondre Daley, Kenyatta Merriex, Allen Wilson, Montel Johnson and Runaldo White give QB Louie Pappas plenty of weapons to get the ball to. Not only are these receivers fast, but highly talented, extremely athletic are versatile. Daley, White and Wilson all stand 6-2 or taller. Merriex and Johnson are small, shifty slot receivers that make it hard on LBs to cover in zone and tough for defensive backs to cover in man to man coverage.

2 Jesuit
Travis Johnson is ranked as the best receiver in our coverage are. He is accompanied by Aaron Paulsen and Bryce Walker; two of the most productive receivers in the game. Both Jonson and Walker recorded over 600 yards receiving last season. Vincent Jackson will be a second year starter at TE and 6-3 WR, Evan Young, give Jesuit another big target.

3 Armwood
Alvin Bailey and Jovante Sneed return for the Hawks. Both make plays and can burn. Bailey totaled 600 plus yards in 2010 while Sneed played half the season and totaled 318 yards. In addition to Bailey and Sneed, 2013 TE, KJ Myles give the Hawks some bulk and attitude at the receiver position.

4 Plant
Austin Aikens, Dan Casselli and 9 Route (7 on 7 Tourney) MVP, Derrick Mann have the potential to all catch 30 balls for 500 yards each. Austin Aikens is the bread winner; an 800 yard receiver last year that challenges any corner that lines up across from him.

T5 King
King may no longer be a finesse team as we are use to. The Lions have two big TEs that will be big problems for opponents. Zerric Coleman (6-6/215lbs) and Marcus Brown (6-2/220lbs) show promise. While receivers Chris Murray and Taylor Gonzalez are as good as they get.

T5 Jefferson
The talent is evident at Jefferson.  Charles Booth is a versitile slot threat. Adrian Jenkins is a big body who hopes to duplicate Andre Davis’s numbers and Juwann Coffee has improved a skillful receiver.  What could truly make this unit jump in the ranking is the play of junior Aaron Jenkings and senior Marqueil Jackson.  If these two become the x factors in the offense, the Dragons now have 4-5 killers at at WR at any one time.

OFFENSIVE LINE

Cory Martinez, Tampa Catholic
