HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY THE BOX

#2 Panthers cage #3 Terriers 36-6

Tampa, FL – Plant rolled up to Chelo Huerta Stadium with intentions of continuing their winning streak vs. Hillsborough, but the Terriers had other ideas. On a night that almost seemed like it was not going happen, a beautiful skyline appeared, the home stand filled up and the bands made joyful music. Enough of the soft stuff, let’s get right down to it. SEE VIDEO HERE

The Good
The game started with the Terriers mauling the Panthers. Plant came out flat and Hillsborough ran right over them. Hillsborough’s first two offensive possessions were very good and convincing. The combination of Anthony Brown and Jeremiah Green put Hillsborough in scoring position on both early possessions. Chris Sato missed on a field goal attempt, but the Terrier defense forced a 3-0 and the HHS offense pounded their way into the end zone on a Jeremy Agrinonzis 1 yard QB sneak. Hillsborough owned the first quarter amassing 109 total yards of offense while only allowing 8 yards of total offense to the Panthers.

Then the sun went down, the winds shifted and the Panthers woke up. Midway through the second quarter, the Panthers finally got on the scoreboard with a Grant Van Aman field Goal and then started to cook. After that, the Panther offense scored on every position until the 4th quarter. A big time 29 yard pass from James Few to Austin Aikens sparked the landslide. Following that, Plant scored from 2 yards out on QB sneak by Few, 10 yard pass to Derrick Mann, 7 yard pass to Aikens, 37 yard FG and a safety to end the night.

The Bad
After a powerful statement 1st Quarter, the Terrier fire fizzled out. Hillsborough posted 86 rushing yards in the 1st quarter, but finished the game with just 113 yards on the ground. HHS also did not help themselves, turning the ball over 4 times, 3 times in the second half.

The first half was not kind to the Panthers. After a big win over Jesuit, the expectations for the Panthers to come out firing were high. But, it was just the opposite. James few started slow, but his receivers didn’t help him out either (dropped a few catchable balls). Few started the game 0 for 4 passing and did not throw his first TD pass until he was 1 for 10 with an interception on his first attempt. Even though Plant went into half time up 17-6; the offense didn’t exactly carve up Hillsborough. Plant ended the first half with 118 yards of total offense, 66 of those came of 2 big passes to Austin Aikens.

The Play Maker
Plant WR, Austin Aikens jump started a dead Panthers offense with two circus receptions and beautiful pitch-n-catch fade for a 7 yards TD. Aikens finished the game with 3 receptions for 73 yards and 2TDs.

Bright Spots
Jordan Sherit, Hillsborough, DE – the 2013 Terrier ended the game with 3 solo tackles and a handful of assist. At times, he was unblockable.

Jean Dumas, Hillsborough, LB – The 2012 Terrier made a few jaw dropping hits, where he penetrated the Panther offensive line and rocked the ball carrier.

Tate Rogers, Plant, LB/FB – Rogers ended the game with 6 total tackles and 18 yards rushing on 3 attempts.

James Few, Plant, QB – After a slow start, Few caught on fire ending the game with 115 yards in the air, 7 of 15 and 4TDs. Not a bad night.

Potential Prospect
James Pensyl, Hillsborough, QB, 2015 – This kid is 6-3/175lbs, with a cannon of an arm. He didn’t do much last night, but the potential is there. He will end up being a 3 year starter for the Terriers. We will keep an eye on him as he develops.
