BAY AREA BITES

Two Area Kids Named Parade All Americans

Before Under Armour and US Army All Americans, there was the original, Parade All American. Since 1963, PARADE has picked the top high school football players in America. Tampa Bay has been called home by some of the top football players in the country based on-the-field performances. The PARADE All-American Teams are chosen based on both the player’s senior year success and his potential to play big-time college football. The roster is similar in size to that of an NFL team—with a starting lineup and equal depth at each position. The goal was a team that would be formidable at the next level.

The BCP Area has been blessed to have 31 athletes names to the prestigious list which includes Larry Smith, RB, Robinson; Mike Pearson, OL, Armwood; Kenny Kelly, QB, Tampa Catholic and Vernon Hargreaves, DB, Wharton. The most recent selections are:

2014 Byron Cowart, DL, Armwood, Auburn
2014 Derwin James, DB, Haines City, Florida State

Both Cowart and James were at the top of the list according to BCP 2015 class rankings.  In addition, each graced the top of the national rankings of various recruiting networks. James is currently on campus at FSU in the middle of spring practice. While Cowart is preparing for a tough summer at Auburn.
