Trent Chmelik, we think he is ready for this moment

Countryside is itching at the pants to get another crack at the East Lake whom embarrassed the Cougars last season 47-3. Weston Fordham and Artavis Scott put on a show in Countryside’s own house. This season, “Cside” will get them at home. More confidence, slightly more talented and more bounce to their step.

Countryside 6-0 vs. East Lake 6-0

RB Danta Satcher’s contribution of 978 rushing yards is a big piece of the pie as the team has rushed for 1310 yards on the season. The defense has been stellar. For the season, the Cougar defense has only allowed 82 points in 6 games. That is roughly 13 points per game. Even more impressive has been junior QB, Trent Chmelik. Shared time last season at the position, now is the single signal caller and has been making the most of it.

Chmelik started the season pretty hot, passing for 189 yards, completed 10 of just 17 passes versus Lakewood. He completed just under 60% of his passes during that contest. No TDs, but no INTs either. He followed that performance up with 171 yards versus Southeast and 2 TD passes. Since then he had games of 195 yards, 212 yards and 194 yard passing games and 5 total TD passes. What is most impressive, Trent is playing big in big games. He has completed better than 50% of his passes in every game this season; 67% versus Northeast and an eye popping 73% versus Clearwater.

Biggest game of Trent’s career is coming up in a matter of hours. East Lake comes to town with a monster defense that has allowed 64 points this year (11 points per game). In order to help his team beat the 2nd ranked East Lake Eagles, Trent will need to stay upright versus a defensive front that has produced 23 sacks this season. The Cside offensive line has been great this year and will accept the task to not only compete against the East Lake front 7, but attempt to dominate them. If Trent can stay clean, he will be throwing into a secondary that has 5 interceptions this year as a team in addition to 24 pass break ups.

The game has “BATTLE” written all over it. It should not be a question that Trent is the X-Factor. He will need to play a nearly flawless game to give his team a chance to win.
