The Warriors are entering their first season of 11-man football and apparently they have some, if not more than enough pieces to fit nicely once they get placed into a district (likely in Class 2A) in the not-so-distant future. For now, Zephyrhills Christian Academy will play an independent schedule against some much stronger opponents than last season in their 6-man campaign and guys like RB/DL specialist Darrell Cook are here to help usher ZCA’s transition into full-fledged Friday night lights football. Cook, a 6-foot-1, 250-pound physical specimen along with several of his other teammates have been camping and working tirelessly to make sure they have done their part when their spring game rolls around, and then when the fall hits and Mount Dora Bible awaits them on August 21st in their fall classic.  Cook has been a standout at Ignite and E7, as well as a workhorse for his squad this past Sunday at ‘Bull in the Ring’ punishing the sled-pull, 9-cone obstacle course and pressing the 65-pound dumbbells twenty-three times. Whether lined up at the edge on defense, or taking the hand-off from the QB, Cook’s first step is explosive and once his legs start moving his forward momentum is nearly impossible to stop at the point of impact. With his frame and versatility, many of his opponents’ coaching staffs will be spending some time burning the midnight oil when it comes to scheming for such an impactful player at that level.
