PINELLAS COUNTY RECRUITING

The E7TC Breakdown Begins: Pinellas County

LARGO’S JAQUAZE SORRELLS (2019)

There were 39 players from Pinellas County that made it out to Lakeland to showcase their talents on Sunday, and we’ve got some initial observations on a few prospects that caught our attention. Of course, more players will be highlighted as the breakdown of BCP’s E7TC Spring continues, but for now–we’ve got some fellas that need to have some light shined on their performances from the afternoon.

Starting off the list is a trio of Packers from Largo. The Packers were well-represented on Sunday and saw one of their own–RB Jaquan Heirs–pick up where another Packer (John Clark) left off last season at this very same event with MVP honors for the group. As mentioned, we saw three guys make big splashes wearing the Royal Blue and Gold–one on the offensive side, while two on the defensive side.

2018 Quarterback Isaiah Bellamy checked-in at 6-feet, 4-inches and 220-pounds after showing significant (muscle) weight gains from the 2015 season. Bellamy is starting to get smoother with his feet and hips, and his eyes are getting better as well. He already has the arm, so if those tangibles start to flourish, then expect this young man to be extremely productive for Largo in the fall.

Defensive End Bobby Roundtree (2017) is long and rangy at 6’5″ and 215-pounds, but his performance at the camp shows why he’s picked up offers from Colorado State, Iowa State, Indiana and the hometown Bulls. Roundtree’s burst and his length provided issues for the OL group and during 1-v-1’s. Last, but certainly not least is 2019 DT Jaquaze Sorrells who announced his physical presence in a major way at 6-3/260 knocking out mouthpieces and simply dominating some aspects of the drills. Sorrells put up 37 tackles and two sacks as a freshman in 2015.

There were a pair of prospects from Dixie Hollins with some nice activity throughout the camp as QB Chadd Cann Jr. seems to be getting more consistent each time we see him along with LB/FB Louis Cotto–just an ’18 and over 6-feet and 200-pounds. Cotto is a transfer from Admiral Farragut and was literally taking reps from other players in the LB group that showed hesitation to jump in the fold. Cotto was two yards shy of 300 total yards out of the backfield and also was credited with a sack and four tackles on defense last season.

Northside Christian had a trio of players that represented well in the form of WR Derrick Wright–who stepped up and went at the best DB’s in the camp all day, while defensive end Cam’Ron Fowler and LB Tah’shim Knight were extremely consistent with their reps. Fowler is listed on last year’s roster at 6-2/240 and looked extremely athletic signaling that the Mustangs have yet another solid playmaker returning on the defensive side of the ball.

Countryside’s Jervontae Morris was extremely solid at the cornerback position, while WR Royce Prescott had a few very nice moments using his 6’2″ frame to his best advantage. Calvary Christian has another solid contributor on their offense to pair with QB/ATH Richie Mize and that’s Alonso-transfer Alex Laccubue. The Class of ’18 signal-caper led the Ravens in passing yardage last season and could be heard receiving praise a few times by QB’s coach Robert Marve regarding his accuracy and arm strength.

Clearwater OT Zach Hauschild had himself a solid day of work amongst the big fellas and will be an important piece along the front for Head Coach Don Mesick and his Tornadoes this fall while Palm Harbor University DE Gavin Wyllie was very impressive during indy’s and group drills. Wyllie is listed at 6-2/225 and was good for 34 tackles, and eight sacks for the ‘Canes last season and his quick twitch of the line was consistently beating other players around the edge.
