The Battle-Bag-Ballers from Xecutives

LAKELAND – The BCP Xecutives Event concluded with an added bonus of recognizing some ballers that were just short of the MVP’s, but were clearly ahead of most of the others within their position groups. There were eight recipients of this little gift from Vanguard Attorneys as yet another way of showing some love to the young men that came out and competed. Three guys from Hillsborough High School made the list while Pasco County had two players win a battle bag. Polk County had one representative on this list as well. Let’s quickly look at these fellas that deserve a special shoutout from Sunday as well.

QB – Michael Penix Jr, Pasco (6-2/172) -2018
The southpaw is progressing rather nicely and with that size, arm strength and three years left of school, needless to say the sky’s the limit as long as he stays healthy and on the track he’s currently on. If you’re fortunate enough to be standing near the end of one of his passes, it sounds like live-fire coming at you before it even hits the WR’s hands. Should be fun to see what this young man accomplishes in the coming seasons.

RB – Darrell Cook, Zephyrhills Christian (6-1/253) -2016
This young man just keeps on grinding and that’s the way we like it. Cook has been present and accounted for at every event and has showed some flashes of beast mode in him. He came to life in the second half of the camp and was feeding off of LB’s by the end of the day.

WR – Daquon Green, Tampa Bay Tech (6-1/188) -2017
So. Much. Upsideā€¦ What a player this young man is starting to develop into. His frame is obviously the star attraction, but this young man’s more than just an impressive frame. Green’s progression will be exciting to watch in the coming season and should be firmly on everyone’s wish list by this time next year if college coaches see what we see in him.

WR – Rudy Dawson, Hillsborough (5-8/162) -2016
This “Terrier” is more deserving of a description than just a blanket breed. This young man was attacking routes like a Blue-Nosed American Staffordshire and was open pretty much the entire afternoon. Dawson battled through the frustration of not getting fed the ball and continued to work like a boss without any complaints.

OL – Baveon Johnson, Lake Gibson (6-3/347) -2016
Seminoles’ Fans rejoice. The FSU OL commit put on 32-pounds since we last saw him at Ignite in January. He also was throwing near-300-pound DT’s/DE’s around like a half-empty backpack. His teammate Michael Wiggs got the MVP because there wasn’t a moment when he lost a 1v1, but Johnson was on his heels the entire afternoon for the top award. Just imagine what OL coach Rick Trickett will do with this beast.

DL – Godey Coleus, Wharton (6-1/265) -2016
The buzz is picking up around this young man and he’s put on 15-pounds of muscle since we last saw him. Coleus was a beast on Sunday and the light has come on. You better pay close attention to where this young man lines up this fall because you’ve also got to deal with Richard Drummond, who’s now tipping the scales at a very healthy 300-pounds. Godey’s gonna eat this fall.

DL – Zachary Carter, Hillsborough (6-4.5/240) -2017
You want to talk about the light coming on for a prospect? This young man’s aura is as bright as the Floridian midsummers sun and adding 14-pounds to an already impressive frame is precisely what the doctor ordered for his future. Still two years left to ball out for The Big Red, this name will be everywhere shortly.

LB – Armand Chalk, Hillsborough (5-9/216) -2017
Another Class of 2017 prospect and the third and final member from HHS, this bruiser caused Derrick Brooks’ head to nearly explode in LB/RB 1v1’s pass rush with his stutter-step-shimey. Chalk is climbing up the ladder with a vengeance and is going to beat a ton of RB’s this fall for the Terriers we are sure of.
