Seffner, FL – Overshadowed by the big dog on the block (Armwood) sits a small 2A private school which quietly won 7 games a year ago and even earned a playoff spot for the first time in school history (Est. 2010). Steve Lewis developed the Seffner Christian Academy football program, improving the success at a steady rate before stepping down after the 2015 season. Travis Puleo took the reigns in 2016 and pushed the team to 7 wins and a District Runner-Up spot for playoff rights.

Now the secret is out and the “comforter is off the mattress.” The Crusaders can no longer sneak up on their opponents. The expectations are higher and the competition a little tougher. So are the Crusaders. The annual district opponents are no more as the small school playoff format has regionalized the competition. Basically, it’s a handful of big districts. SCA is no longer competing against the 10 teams on their schedule, but the many 2A teams across the state. The new playoff point system is how teams will be selected for the playoff brackets.

The Point system rewards teams based on the quality of the opponents a team plays and the outcome of the game. Select HERE to understand how the point system will work

Almost 15 freshman are on roster for Coach Travis Puleo this year. The Crusaders are building to sustain success. Hopefully the young crop will blossom and carry future teams deep into the playoffs. For now, SCA will follow the lead of their sophomore quarterback Isaiah Knowles. As a freshman Knowles threw for 1482 yards, completed .528 percent of his passes, 16 passing TDs and just 7 interceptions. SCA will be ready for the bright lights.
