HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY RECRUITING

Plant City’s primed: WR Antoine Thompson

Seems like Plant City is trying to become a steady manufacturer of 6-foot plus, 180-pound plus wide receivers and this 2017 prospect seems to fit right into that mold. Thompson played sparingly as a freshman in three games for the Raiders, but managed to catch three balls for 57 yards and a touchdown. He parlayed that into a season in which he saw nine games of action last year and added 20 catches for 341 yards for a team that was a touchdown or less from victory in all six of its losses. If the Raiders want to turn it around and become one of the county’s top programs, they’ll need that sort of numerical trend to continue starting with the spring and then in the fall. Thompson showed phenomenal hand-eye coordination and concentration at E7 making some circus-style catches. His body control and positioning were also much improved from while showing aggressiveness at the point of attack. Let’s hope for everyone’s sake that is a part of Raider Nation that his physical development (weighed and measured right at 6-foot-0, 180-pounds) and mental approach takes his game to a level that former PCHS standout TJ Chase has now reached.
