We’ve already got a week of high school football under our belts, one that a lot of teams were able to reflect on, grow, and learn from for the real test – the regular season. We saw some good performances all around, but there were a lot of new faces previously unseen by the masses, some that we’ve already brought you. Today will wrap up our two part series about who you need to watch out for as we progress through the season.
Tyler Hunter, 2018 QB, Bloomingale:
The quarterback to succeed the guy who led the Bulls to their best record in school history led his Bulls to a 16-10 victory against Chamberlain on Friday night. Hunter was able to connect with WRs Sam Gonzalez and Ed Amos for 105 yards, according to Chris Lemus of the Tampa Bay Times. Hunter will replace Bobby McIntyre, who did it all for the Bulls for the previous three seasons. Watch for a lot of passing from Hunter throughout the year as first-year Head Coach Max Warner will try to establish the Bulls as a force in Hillsborough County, once again.
Clearwater Academy International:
The Knights started off their first fall game with a 43-6 win against Bradenton Christian, and from what we’ve seen from them in the spring plus their victory on Friday, the Knights may become another strong private school in Pinellas County. With an away game at Clearwater Central Catholic in Week Four, and an away game at Cambridge Christian in Week Nine, we’ll get to see just how good Clearwater Academy is. They’re led by sophomore QB Demetrius Davis, who threw for 144 yards and a touchdown, according to Colby Cole of the Times. The Knights will be one of the more interesting stories this season in their first at 11-on-11 football.
Nate Dantley Jr., 2017 WR, Hillsborough:
Dantley took the ball 76 yards to the end zone on a play that should’ve only gone for a first down, according to Jacob Hoag of the Times, but the senior made some big moves to take it to the house. His touchdown started the 41-0 rout of East Bay on Friday night. There’s a lot of upside for Dantley, especially playing in a very athletic offense in the Terriers. Dantley will hope to be one of the main options for Tyler Thomas, who will need all the help he can get as a sophomore. Watch for the Terriers to make big plays with Dantley all year long.
