BROOKSVILLE — Nature Coast (10-0) behind the running of senior running back TJ Owens (22 carries, 393 yards, four touchdowns) defeated Zephyrhills (8-3), 35-21 in a Class 5A region 2 quarterfinal matchup.
The Sharks jumped out to a 20-0 lead on 2 and 58 yard touchdown runs by Owens and a 57-yard scoring pass from senior quarterback Brian Haygood to senior receiver Gilbert Delgado. Bulldogs closed within 20-14 before the half with a 5-yard touchdown run by sophomore athlete Tre’pavis Mobley and a 62-yard interception return for a score by senior linebacker Jarrett Black.
After a scoreless third quarter, TJ Owens added scoring runs of 27 and 53 yards and Tre’pavis Mobley run it in for 2 yards out.
Nature Coast’s Brian Haygood had 216 total yards and one touchdown pass, Gilbert Delgado had 154 all-purpose yards, one touchdown catch, one interception, and a sack, senior linebacker Matthew Robinson had three tackle-for-losses and a sack, and sophomore linebacker Michael Weston had two tackle-for-losses, a fumble recovery, and a sack.
Zephyrhills junior quarterback Charles Harrison III had 237 total yards, Tre’pavis Mobley had 130 receiving yards and two short touchdown runs, junior running back Elijah Thomas had 146 all-purpose yards, and senior linebacker Mikhael Morrell had two tackle-for-losses and an interception.
