Malik Barrow 2016 DE while at Tampa Catholic grew into a fabulous football player. Difficult to nail down a starting point with this young man because his year to year development has been “Textbook.”

Barrow went from looking like a standup outside linebacker, adding weight and transforming into one of the prettiest defensive linemen in the area. Now and out of area kid as he has recently transferred to IMG. Barrow began to dominate the interior. It was not always this way.

As a freshman, he was knocked around some, lost gap control and was inconsistent making plays in the backfield. Note: He was just a freshman. As he gained confidence and weight his sophomore year, he started to control offensive linemen and beat double teams. This past year, he demanded a double team because he made so many plays. He not only looked like a major D1 prospect, but played like a hungry major D1 player.

Below is film of Mr. Barrow as a sophomore. When he looked like an above average player and not a 4 star major prospect. The star power wasn’t there, but the potential was blinding. He had something to him that made us continue to watch and evaluate.

Next season, he should own his opponents. He is no where near his ceiling and don’t be surprise if his play increases his star rating!
