MacCollom Shootout: Lawrence’s 29 points not good enough vs Cats

Lakewood vs Wharton

First Half – Wharton swallowed up Lakewood in their half court defense. Swarmed the ball and created several turnovers. The Spartans only mustered up 2 first quarter points before the finally got warn in the second quarter scoring 13 points. Wharton did not slow down, 16 first quarter points and 11 second quarter points. Scoring evenly distributed amongst the team. Without the numbers to support, Wharton out hustled the Spartans on the glass and pushed the ball in transition. Wharton and Lakewood ended the first half; Cats up 27-15

Second Half – Lakewood had no other scoring threat other than Anthony Lawrence. Lawrence scored 29 of the Spartans 44 total points. Spartans missed key scoring opportunities to cut into the Wildcat lead. Wharton turned the ball over very few times and dominated the glass. RJ Palmer provided an offensive spark for Wharton off the bench allowing Phillip Malcolm to run the show at the point and get others involved in the game. Wharton was in total control of the game from start to finish. Final score: Wharton 56, Lakewood 44
