Lancers Survive With a 38-14 Win Over Admiral Farragut

TAMPA – Cambridge Christian started the road towards their second straight state title game appearance on Saturday night with a decisive 38-14 win over Admiral Farragut. The Lancers were forced to play on the grass field at Skyway Park due to a band practicing on the regular turf field, but that didn’t seem to matter for Cambridge.img_8350

The Lancers plugged away after receiving the opening kickoff and put together a 13-play drive to wear down the Blue Jackets defense, but it was capped off by QB Jaylin Jackson taking it in for a 10-yard score. Jackson would find the end zone a few minutes later after Will Singleton recovered a Farragut fumble to put the Lancers in good field position. Jackson finished with 112 yards on 15 carries with the pair of scores.

Admiral Farragut’s Zion Roland made some nice moves on the way to a 30-yard touchdown pass from Keondrae Miller, and Roland would finish with 89 yards on nine receptions with a pair of scores (the other one coming the second), arguably being the most productive Blue Jacket on the field this evening.

Cambridge’s Aaron Pierre broke through the defense in the second from 7-yards away, but Roland’s second score would make it close. Jacob Enns added a 21-yard field goal to make it 23-14 at the half.

It would be the last time that the Blue Jackets would score this season, as the Cambridge Christian defense shut Admiral Farragut down in the second half. Jackson hit J’Kobi Reddick for a 5-yard score. Jackson was 8-for-13 for 98 yards and the touchdown to Reddick on the night. Reddick had 37 yards on three receptions with the score. He added on a 4-yard rush to finish the scoring for the Lancers.

With Northside Christian’s 35-0 win against Seffner Christian, the Lancers will now hit the road to face the Mustangs. It’ll be a game with a ton of history attached to it, as that was where CCS Head Coach Bob Dare coached for 28 years. “It’s kinda surreal since I spent 28 years of my life there, I mean I could tell you every inch of the facility there. We’ll be prepared through a lot of film study,” Dare said.
