The Lakeland Dreadnaughts finished the 2014 season 11-1 and District Champions. Osceola ended the season for Lakeland in round 2 of the playoffs. Senior QB Aaron Johnson passes the torch to sophomore QB Holden Hotchkiss. At 6-3/190 lbs, he has the size and the frame to develop into a really good prospect. However, first things first! Holden is expected to be the starting QB for Lakeland this upcoming season. A different style than year past. A pure pocket passer rather than a run threat as head coach Bill Castle is accustomed to. Holden has to prove himself to handle the offense as the starter, not get overcome by the pressure and make plays in a game as he has in shorts.

We had the opportunity to conduct a short Question/Answer with Holden and he let us in on his own expectations for the 2014 season and motivation.

Is Lakeland Football in good hands with you behind center and why?
HH: Yes! Because I think I’m a good leader on and off the field and I know Castle has full trust in me when it comes to running this team.

What is success?
HH: Success isn’t always just winning. It’s knowing that your team has improved more than anyone.

What personal characteristics do you possess that will contribute to your success with your team?
HH: Making plays on offense through the air and making smart decisions before the play and during.

What have you done that shows initiative and a willingness to work?
HH: Trying to get my receivers to come after school and throw with me and going to camps and 7 on7 tournaments.

What new skills or capabilities have you developed over the last year?
HH: Being second string this year really helped me understand the offense and be able to see the defenses react. It only helped me.

What motivates you?
HH: My brother. I wouldn’t be the quarterback I am today without his help. He has helped in a way that no one else could.

What are you trying to accomplish this offseason before the fall season?
HH: Just keep improving physically and mentally and even emotionally to have short memory, not to get a big head when I throw a touchdown and not to get frustrated when something goes wrong.
