POLK COUNTY RECRUITING

In the center of the Dreadnaught D, Broome

Last season, Lakeland fell in Round 1 of the playoffs for the second year in a row. A 9-2 season was not good enough for a program that is accustomed to winning state titles. The offseason workouts prior to the 2014 season increased in intensity. The leaders on the team took on more responsibility and the contributing players had demands placed on them to become more accountable.

Kelvin Broome, LakelandLooking in the mirror at how he could improve his game to help improve the play of his team, was junior line backer, Kelvin Broome. Broome his known as a heavy hitter and fierce tackler. Mean sucker in pads and mild manner, respectful young man out of pads. We did a short interview with Broome and focused on the change from last year to this year’s 11-0 team. The Dreadnaughts will travel to Osceola for round 2 of the 7A playoffs this Friday. Last week versus the spread offense, Broome did not play as much as he is use to. This week will be different versus the wing T Kowboy offense. Broome won’t leave the field.

What’s the biggest difference between this year’s team and last year’s Dreadnaught team?
The biggest difference is the conditioning. That has separated us from a lot of teams this year.

If you had to describe your play this season in one word, what would it be and why?
LEADER! I call the plays. I get on to my teammates when I know they are not playing to the best there ability.

Who is your role model?
My role model I would say would have to be Lavonte David (Tampa Bay Bucs LB). I like the way he plays and I’ve been watching him.

Tell me about two things you do in training that directly contribute to your success this year.
Number one has to be running. This is the best shape I’ve ever been in and it’s paying off and also leading the whole defense instead of just my position. Knowing where and what everyone should be doing on each play.
