Hoops: Breakdown Showcase Notes

The BCP/Bay Area Hoops Backboard Breakdown showcase, “SHOWCASED” some of the top Tampa Bay talented and exposed players to be watched. 20 different schools were represented, athletes all wanting a chance to compete.

Reggie Hart, Chamberlain 2013 G #24

The guys we expected to do well, did just that. Reggie Hart, Chamberlain, Hillsborough County’s leading scorer and our Player of the Year, was good in drill work and fantastic during game play. Attacked the rim when he needed to and knocked down the perimeter shot as he has all year. Durant’s “double trouble”, Kyle White and Trenton Robertson were hungry to showcase and learn. Both played their game during game play. Kyle White worked the paint and Robertson was “wet” from the outside. Both were quick learners during drill sessions.

Wharton brought a trio of senior prospects: PG CJ McGill, SF SirPatrick Reynolds and F Drew Vanderbrook. CJ showed extremely good ball handling skills and was very good in one on one scoring drills. SirPatrick was forced to sit out during game play due to a slight injury earlier in the day. However, he showed lots of leadership in drills, picked up concepts quickly and improved each rep. Drew Vanderbrook is an interesting prospect. Long and lanky. He can handle the ball and shoot the perimeter shot. Had a very good day over all.

The East side boys: Armwood’s Marcus Hill, Strawberry Crest’s Devin Diggs and Malik Channer were awesome. Marcus Hill comes to play every time he hits the court. Handles the ball better than expected and has such good touch on his jumper. Devin Diggs at showcases, is great. He attacks, he finishes and shows a will to get better. Malik Channer is so smooth. Awesome handles and court vision.

Each Breakdown participant was evaluated in various categories ranging from attitude, ball handling and scoring ability. We wanted to extensively breakdown each prospect which we did.

Malik Hall, Academy at the Lakes stole the show in game play. Opened eyes during drill work and went off during the games. Took the ball to the rack and was deadly from the outside.

Morgan Drummond, Riverview may have had the best day over all. Coaches raved about his athletic ability early in the showcase and then he balled during game play. Played tough defense, was a really good teammate and made tough buckets.

Juwan Green was the perfect example of, “Don’t judge a book by its cover” will strike you more as a fullback on the football field before a PG on the court. By time you take him seriously, he has hit you with a mean crossover and a no look pass to a teammate for a duece (2 points). Very competitive, good ball handling skills and fair shooter.

Ryan Gardner, Benitez International SG was very smooth. Good fundamental game, stays within his frame, athletic and has a sweet jumper.

Both Isaiah Channer, Strawberry Crest and Mylez Channer, TBT were really good. Isaiah is just a rising junior and this prospect “can go.” Controls the ball and has really good balance. Mylez is a tough defender with a lot of hustle. Tough ball player.

Cory Taylor, George Jenkins was really good. Kept an eye on him during drills and followed up during game play. He has tools to work with. Likes to bang inside and tough on the boards. Developing post moves and footwork, but good all around day.

Other who did really well:
Michael Keller, Freedom
Terrence McGee, Durant
Christian Holbrook, Middleton
Dexter Moore, Ocoee
Allen Kilpatrick, Ocoee
Javon Lue, Tampa Bay Tech
