Hoop Fest: Spartans survive Bucs rush

Berkeley Prep vs. Lakewood

Tampa, FL – A very competitive first half for the second game of the night at the Hoop Fest Shootout at Berkeley Prep. Lakewood’s Anthony Lawrence started fast with 9 early points in the first quarter. Jacob Mathis lead Berkeley in scoring with 9 first half points. Eric Reintgen drained two three-pointers and a field goal in the first half while Brad Mayes provided short spark of the bench for the Bucs (One Three-pointer). Kevon Woods gave Lakewood a second scorer beside Anthony Lawrence. Woods hit two early three pointers and ended the first half with 8 points. Lawrence led all scorers in the first half with 13 points. At the half Lakewood 29 Berkeley 22.

Berkeley Prep took their first lead of the game early in the fourth quarter. Hitting Lakewood with a 6-0 run. High defensive intensity and fundamental offensive basketball pushed the Bucs ahead. Lakewood regained the lead with a pretty pass from Lawrence to Woods putting the Spartans up 41-39 at the 2:48 mark. Lawrence hit X.Dean with another pretty pass to put Lakewood up by 4 points with under a minute to play. A few more hustle points by Lakewood and the Final Lakewood 47 Berkeley Prep 40. Jacob Mathis scored 10 points in the second half. Malco Butler came up big for the Spartans scoring 9 points.
