Fitts Named Rookie of the Week in The American

The freshman forward totaled career bests of 29 points and 11 rebounds vs. Memphis

TAMPA, FEB. 6, 2017 – University of South Florida forward Malik Fitts was named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

The freshman averaged 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game in a pair of contests. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native achieved his first double-double with a career-high 29 points and a career-best 11 rebounds against Memphis (2/2). He was a career high 9-for-14 from the floor with a career-best seven made three-pointers. Fitts also set a new career high in steals (three) and made free throws (eight).

This is the first conference recognition for Fitts this season. It is the second time a Bull was selected as rookie of the week this season. Redshirt freshman forward Tulio Da Silva (Brazil) received similar honors on Nov. 21.
