PASCO COUNTY

Field Goal(s): 3 points from the west pasco’s 7-on League

HUDSON – The weekly edition of 7-on-7 west Pasco County style took place on Tuesday night. There was a change in one of the teams participating, but the usual splash plays that have been made all summer by some of the QB/WR’s haven’t changed a bit since we last saw this group of teams a few weeks ago. Here are a few notes from Tuesday night’s action that took place at Veterans Memorial Park located on the grounds of the Fivay Recreational Complex.

The dog days are upon us, so tighten up those collars…

We’ve reached that point in the summer where the grind begins to catch up with those squads that have played four games during the week then gone to weekend’ worth of games that could reach double-digits. This process in some cases is far from over and yet some teams have been cranking out the work for months now in the searing heat. This is the time when coaches (and even teammates) can start to see who’s got what mentally just as much as it would be physically. There were moments during the opening games where teams were perhaps doing a little sleepwalking, but once a few broken plays occurred and coaches got agitated, players began to respond.

There’s a lineup change to announce on your scorecards…

Beginning last week, Mitchell replaced Zephyrhills giving us an opportunity to see the QB/WR combo of Larry DallaBetta and JJ Lewis and the two were pretty darn good against Wesley Chapel in the opening game. It’s clear that smaller DB’s are going to have absolute nightmares against Lewis when they have to jump to get the ball at its highest point. The Mustangs aren’t just a two-man show and they’ve got some athletes that we’ll certainly be talking about later on before the season gets cranked up. For those scoring at home, your lineup of teams is now Mitchell, Hudson, Wesley Chapel, Land O’Lakes, Bishop McLaughlin, Fivay, River Ridge and Wiregrass Ranch.

Some noticeable absences…and attendees

The Royal Knights were sans Chris Schwarz as he rests a dinged-up knee while WR/DB Alex Kostogiannes was in sneakers. QB Trevor Hawks made some nice throws to his targets even without those guys by his side. Land O’Lakes was without Safety, Douglas Farmer. However, two of Mitchell’s hawgs in the trenches, DL Devontay Taylor and OL Matt Hegwood were there to root on their skill guys.
